Can a Wiccan who is not a High Priestess initiate someone?
A friend of mine wants to be initiated into Wicca and asked if I would do it. I’m not a High Priestess and I’ve only been studying Wicca for three years. I’m confident enough to lead a ritual, but I wonder if I would be considered "qualified" to initiate someone. So, I have two questions.

1) Can someone who is not a High Priestess/High Priest initiate someone?
2) Even if I could initiate my friend, should I? Or should I just help him design a self-initiation ritual?

Yes, under certain conditions.
If you are not near your HPs (you have left her under good conditions) and you no longer live in her or another HPs covendom within 7 leagues.
You can only take that person to the First Degree.

None of this is recommended, because it will be very difficult in later years to have another group recognize it without a long period of "being known by your deeds".

Self initiation is quite acceptable, as long as you realize that it is no substitute for actually being brought into the circle.

Ignore the twits.

I’ve seen a number of very passionate debates on this topic. I’ve seen some VERY disparaging comments about self-initiation. Personally I feel it’s a personal thing. I know the person who initiated the bloke who initiated me was a total pompous prat - who once admitted being self-initiated & denied saying it ever since.

Not suggesting that you initiate your friend - but maybe you could support her in a self-initiation.

Perfect love/perfect trust | Feb 03, 2010

Initiation is into a group. It is inaccurate to say one is "initiated into Wicca" because the whole of the Wica implies more than one group, more than one brotherhood.

Any group or tradition can set up rules for initiation into their own group/tradition. The initiation rite will be into said group/tradition, not into Wicca as a whole.

The term "self-initiation" is a misnomer, however. Starting on a path alone, even starting the whole of Wicca, is a Dedication. Initiation is a dedication TO A GROUP. There is nothing wrong with dedicating instead of initiating. Anyone can be initiated, but dedication takes, well, DEDICATION.

Too many people feel so self-entitled to an initiation that they call a dedication an initiation and demand that every group consider them a member. That’s why people don’t like it when someone says they are self-initiated, it’s like saying "hello, you’ve never met me, but now I expect you to pay my student loans for me, because you’re my family…"
LabGrrl | Feb 03, 2010

One is not initiated into Wicca. They are initiated into a particular coven and the Tradition of that coven. Which means that just because you’re initiated into one tradition doesn’t mean you know squat about another tradition, and that second tradition certainly doesn’t have to consider you one of them.

Are you part of a coven? If not, then this question is meaningless.

If your friend is an Eclectic, she should be considering a dedication ritual. If she wants to involve you, that’s certainly allowable, but the ultimate dedication is between her and her gods. It’s not the ritual that does something here. It’s symbolic of the commitment that she is making.

"Self-initiation" is a nonsensical term. Initiation is, by definition, something that someone or some group does to a person. Self-initiation is therefore akin to inviting yourself to someone else’s party.

There is no central governing office no order that gives out the titles. So by all means she can initiate herself and you can do that to. It is a spiritual contract between you/her and the goddess and that is all what is needed.

You can be a wiccan without being part of a coven so this means you don’t require to be initiated by an "official" priest/ess.

I can only post links because I am not a wiccan I am self initiated yes but not in a wiccan path. I am a chaos shaman drawing understanding and powers of the realms. In working with the spirit world.

She has her own path to walk these websites will help. Let no coven based HP tell you that it is impossible to self initiate, after all who initiated the first wiccan priest/ess?

May your friend find peace and understanding in the path she desires to walk. May the fires of wisdom and knowledge burn brightly in this child and her be given sight beyond the veil. May the gaze and the way of the gods be begiven to this child and the heart of this child be pure.

May it so be

Is there any way that a human have a human being with an animal?
i was wondering this because i saw a movie called albino farm and that came to my mind.

like the human and the animal have sex? No not really the genetics wouldn’t match up and a baby could not be made… there was an experiment a while ago (not too recent though) where they inseminated volunteers with different types of primate sperm, those closest to us in genetic make up… and it just won’t happen…

and if a human and an animal did have a child it would be a hybrid, not a human

The true story behind "The Amityville Horror"?
I know the movie is based on a true story, but I also know that most horror films that are usually exaggerate just about everything to an unbelievable level (as seen in The Exorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc). I just saw the 1979 version of The Amityville Horror the other night, and I thought it was pretty interesting because of the fact that it’s supposed to be true. But my question is - what about it was really true, and what wasn’t? What’s the REAL story behind the house?

The movie is based on the book which was done detail-by-detail from the occupants of the house, so the only way to know is to ask them. During an interview I saw, they wouldn’t describe what wasn’t in the movie because they couldn’t bear to relive it one more time…so "Read the book.". That should tell you all you need to know.

Part II was about a well-documented true story where a teen went crazy and murdered his family. Of course whether he was possessed by demons is "unknown", but the ultimate incident did indeed happen.

Special Dead
Special Dead (2006)

IMDB rating: 4.70

Plot: When a zombie plague infects Camp Special Dude, a dude ranch for the mentally handicapped, a ragtag band of campers and counselors struggles to survive the night. Led by the indifferent, nun-chuck-wielding head counselor, Mac, and his wheelchair-bound sister Dale, the unlikely heroes fight their way off the mountain as, one by one, they’re picked off and join the ranks of the walking dead. It’s a campy stampede of blood, boobs and gore as some “very special” people show that they can kick some serious undead ass.

Directors: Phillips Thomas L.

Actors: Brubaker Jason,Rutowicz Anthony,Shams Jah,Bate Mark,Reynolds David,Storm Carl,Hastings Keith,Jenson Daniel,Crnkovich Thomas,Comedy,Horror,

Would you find this offensive?
My teacher looked at me like I was the devil’s spawn when I said this:

The context: We were talking about parents who are deaf and have deaf children and who decide not to get their dead children hearing aids (cochlear implants etc) so that they can remain as part of a special deaf clique (this was a topic of debate in a legal class).

I said that "their children will always be disadvantaged in the wider community"

to which my teacher replied "but not in their own community"

the response to this that my teacher thought was so evil was
"A community that does them no good and that other people aren’t going to care about when it comes to working with people outside their own clique."

I’d like to point out that I absolutely have nothing against people who are deaf, my point was about people who shelter their children in general into their own cliques.

I’m the kind of person who gets straight to the point when I want to say something (not that what I said was even particularly blunt, but I’m running out of explanations), and some people find this offensive… but my teacher’s response was really, really extreme and I’m wondering if what I said was particularly offensive or if it was just my bluntness.

that doesn’t sound offensive. your comment might have touched something personal about his own life.
No Lie | Feb 03, 2010

I don’t think it’s offensive either, but not everyone has the degree of common sense that you and I have. The teacher is just pissed off that you dared to disagree with her. That’s how teacher’s are. They think they have a monopoly on your brain.
Red Doll Shoes | Feb 03, 2010

No I would agree with you, anyone with a special need will eventually have to function in the real world and those who are deaf will have to learn to communicate with others who do not know sign languages.
Emily Howard | Feb 03, 2010

I can see your point, but, in my opinion, you could’ve said it in a more tactful way seeing it can be viewed as a sensitive topic. For example;

‘Yes they will have the support of their own community, however when having to communicate with other communities, which is to be expected, this may pose a problem for them in the future’.

I’m also someone who is incredibly blunt and have had to deal with similar reactions/expressions. I’ve now learnt to sugar-coat straight forward views.
Girl Sailor | Feb 03, 2010

I think you’re pretty much in the right. What you said was the truth, and it wasn’t all that blunt. I think maybe it’s just your teacher has a problem with you disagreeing, or perhaps he/she knows personally someone like that.
Merl ?? | Feb 03, 2010

You may have been blunt and just (a little) tactless when responding to your teacher. There’s nothing wrong with being blunt. Just don’t sound arrogant, as if your opinion is all that matters on the subject. Blunt people do tend to come across as arrogant in some situations. It’s a fine line you have to walk. I would suggest you initiate another conversation with the teacher, and make it plain at the outset that you consider it a friendly debate. Good luck.
handyman | Feb 03, 2010

What you said could be viewed as offensive - especially considering that there are hundreds and hundreds of d/Deaf adults with and without d/Deaf parents who are very successful both within the deaf and hearing communities. It’s also possible for d/Deaf children and adults to be highly successful without cochlear implants. It’s very possible that she knows successful d/Deaf people, and viewed your comment to be slightly offensive.

The hearing perspective is often that deaf people are disabled and handicapped and at a disadvantage. Keep in mind that many people in the deaf community don’t see it that way. Also, for those involved in deaf culture it is very important to them. They have their own language, history, art, poetry, and so forth. And many d/Deaf adults who become a part of the d/Deaf community find it to be an invaluable part of their own identity. A comment like "a community that does them no good" is pretty offensive. The same would go for a member of any other community or cultural group.

As a side note - I know many ASL/English bilingual Deaf adults from multi-generational Deaf families who are highly educated and very successful in the hearing community and in the deaf community.

Am I right about the Halloween movies?
Ok, so basically the original Halloween movies is where Michael Myers wants to kill his sister because killing all his relatives will release him from a curse that he has.

However, in the REMAKES of Halloween it is different. He wants his sister so he can reunite with her and become a family again.

Am I correct?

Actually in the original Halloween films, he has a strange obsession with murder and kills for no reason. He just kills. In Zombie’s 2007 rendition, he kills because his family is red-neck and white trash. They neglect him and disrespect him, with the possible exception of his mother. In his recent follow-up, Michael wants to reunite with his sister, like you said, so they can be a family again. So basically you were partially correct.

inflatable bunny | Sep 12, 2009

In the new movies he wants to kill his sister so they can all be together again. It’s essentially the same premise as the other, he thinks once she’s dead things can be happy again
Peach | Sep 12, 2009

Actually, you aren’t completely right. In the original Halloweens (I and II at least), he kills because he is evil and for no other reason. The later sequels in the series try to turn it all into something, but fail miserably.

But you are right about the remakes.

You have an bad father. A good father never touches his kids no matter WHAT. Hang in there friend, i too have had bad experiences with my father but it will get better. comfort your brothers. Keep them close to you. You can give each other strength. And always keep this in mind: Someday, when your father is alone in his house, with none of his kids talking to him, and his wife has moved out, He will regret what he did.

Im soo sorry that you are having to deal with this! It sucks when someone takes their problems out on you and its not right. I dont know how to solve your dads problems, but I hope he never ever hits you again. Try talking to your mom about it and a counselor at school. I know talking a counselor is scary (at least I think it is). I needed to go to one because I get depressed and anxious sometimes, so I went to my college counselor. It was really helpful and she made me understand how to deal with my situations better. I hope you dont mean it about killing your family..thats not your place to take someone elses life and it shouldnt be said lightly. Maybe try and get involved in some after school activities so you arent home as much, or get a job. (you could play soccer-and your brother could do this too…go to a painting class..volunteer..etc.). I know that you might think your father doesnt care but look at all the people who have reached out to you just through this post-not everyone is like your father. <3

okay, leave and go hang out with your friends and have a good time. maybe hangout with your girlsfriend and have some fun. dont let bad things going on a home make you upset. i fucking hate my parents, they are strict and mean. but i have my best friends and my boyfriend there for me and they make me happy and when i have to come home, i go upstiars to my room and chill there all night, maybe sneak my boyfriend in and, well basically it’s easier to deal with family problems when your happy and you have other people that care about you. cause when you come home, you’ll be happy about what happened that night or just plain, you’ll be happy and it’ll be eaiser for you. and your parents want you to be happy. just when you get home, agree with them, listen to them, give them no reason to yell at you. do your homework and keep up your grades. now i understand, not everytones perfect and your gonna fuck up every once in awhile, but thats normal. just make yourself happy with other people, then move on and try to make yourself happy with them.

he is going through a hard time. emotions may go overboard. maybe he doesn’t mean all that he said. you know, he just said it in a fit of anger. of course he will be happy if your bro has maintained a high gpa. he is just overwhelmed by his poor business.

Everyone in your family including yourself must stop and think about preserving or destroying the family. Then act accordingly. The first thing to do if you want to save your family is to watch your tongues. Next is to forgive and get rid of all bitterness. If you want your family to go down the drain, just sit back, do nothing as it is already going in that direction.

Tingler, The

Tingler, The
Tingler, The (1959)

IMDB rating: 6.60

Plot: The coroner and scientist Dr. Warren Chapin (Vincent Price) is researching the shivering effect of fear with his assistant David Morris (Darryl Hickman). Dr. Warren is introduced to Ollie Higgins (Philip Coolidge), the relative of a criminal sentenced to the electric chair, while making the autopsy of the corpse, and he makes a comment about the tingler-effect to him. Ollie asks for a lift to Dr. Warner, and introduces his deaf-mute wife Martha Higgins (Judith Evelyn), who manages a theater of their own. Dr. Warner returns home, where he lives with his unfaithful and evil wife Isabel Stevens Chapin (Patricia Cutts) and her sweet sister Lucy Stevens (Pamela Lincoln). Dr. Warner, upset with the situation with his wife, threatens and uses her as a subject of his experiment. When Martha dies of fear, Dr. Warner makes her autopsy and finds a creature that lives inside every human being, feeds with fear and is controlled by the scream. Once Martha was not able to scream, the tingler was not rendered harmless and became enormous. When the living being escapes, Dr. Warner and Ollie chase it in a crowded movie theater.
