53 year old married man wants to hang out in bars with work friends half his age and younger.?
Almost every weekend he gets calls from young co workers to meet them down at the local bars to get drunk, sometimes bar hop. I thought it was kind of funny that a 53 year old married man with grown children would want to do this but I figured I would let him get it out of his system and let him go. I have gone with him a few times but it seems kind of ridiculous for a middle aged man wanting to "hang out" with guys young enough to be his own kids.(Which we have raised 3 twenty somethings already) I thought the novelty would wear off but instead it is becoming a regular thing with them calling every weekend from one bar or another for him to go out and carouse with his young "buddies". It seems inappropriate to me that he would want to continue this juvenile behavior.
I have spoken to him about it and how I find it uncomfortable. He denies there is anything wrong with it. He acts like this is all normal. I feel like he isn’t respecting my wishes. He just "dismisses" them out right and acts like I am invisible and as if being "unreasonable". Almost an entitled mentality. I am concerned that he has "Peter Pan Syndrome and is refusing to grow up. I feel like I don’t have a marriage partner anymore when he acts like this. The guys are calling every weekend now.
Also my 20 something children see this and I think it is a bad example for them. When he goes out with "the guys" who are in their early to mid twenties he gets drunk and disorderly. He doesn’t fight with anyone but he does "Drunk calling" to other co workers to try to get them to go out too. It is very embarassing. He tried to pick up girls at the bar supposedly for his freind who he deemed as unable to get a girl by himself and therefore "needed" help from my husband to get one for him. I was there at the time and they all laughed about it because he struck out anyway and was no "help" at all..
He pounds his fist on the bar sometimes really hard and has bruises the next day but forgets how he got them
Is this normal behavior for him and should I be concerned.?
It seems like he has major boundary issues. The boundaries seem very blurred between him and his youthful co workers. Is this appropriate behavior from a man married 25 plus years.
He is probably having a mid-life crisis.
Be strong. This too shall pass.

Sorry i did not read the whole thing. But my fiance hangsout with men older then him, older men have more wisdom and experience. Some younger men just like father figure friends. You mayby can’t stop him from talking to his new friend, but at least limit the hanging out time.Men in their 20’s see hanging out in a whole other light then some older men.

Could be early signs od dementia or something like that he needs the dr. You know the only reason they let him hang out is to pick up the tab think about it he has a gold card and young kids are broke.

The first two poster beat me to it. I believe it is a mid life crisis too. My husband is 45 years old and he was hanging with some 20ish people. I myself am only 31 but I am a mom and have had 15 years or child rearing to grow up so I do act my age. You need to wait it will pass.

Peter Pan Syndrome, AKA MAC-Middle-Aged Crazy. It’s a real problem. Has to do with waning testosterone levels. Some fellers think they can hang around young kids and the youth will "rub off."
As for the kids, I’ll bet old Gramps buys more than a few rounds–they have the geezer pay.
If he’s "drunk dialing" then he needs to get himself some help. He’s heading down Alcoholic Alley. He probably still has time to turn it around and not have to go the 12 Steps route, but not if he continues on. He’s having blackouts if he can’t remember hurting himself–that’s a real danger sign.
If he’s picking up girls, no matter what the excuse, he’s disrespecting his marriage. That’s intolerable.
You should be concerned. His behavior is abnormal. He needs to get a grip, grow up, and realize he’s getting older. Running around behaving like the "creepy old guy at the disco" is not going to make him any younger…it’s just going to make him look like the creepy old guy at the disco that the young kids laugh at behind his back, when they’re not putting the touch on him for twenty, thirty or fifty bucks.
If he’s got family besides you who are aware of this perverse behavior, it might be time to stage an intervention. He’s going to end up in some serious trouble if he continues down this path.
Best wishes.

You should be concerned about his drinking.
If he cant remember things then he has a drinking problem.

Definately mid-life crisis. He wants to be young again. You should do things together Like the beach and going for rides in his new sports car or on his boat because you know that is one of the things men buy. Just be the sexy wife that has aged gracefully and ride his thunderbolt like a 20 year old would. It will soon pass. And then it will be your turn.

Song question from a movie Romy and Michele's High School Reunion?
What was the song called and the artist’s name that sings the song that goes something like "I’ll be waiting here for you"? I’m not sure if that’s exactly how it goes
Cindi lauper sang Time after Time, if this is the one your thinking about it was at the end of the movie when they were all three dancing..

"Every Breath You Take"? (Sting)
No, wait… I think it was that Richard Marx song "Right Here Waiting"
Or… it could be that Cindy Lauper song — good answer, next poster!
