IMDB rating: 5.20

Plot: A writer of BAD detective novels is in full writers’ block. He pretends to be the alibi of a beautiful woman who was arrested for murder at first thinking her innocent, but as she shows more and more interesting abilities (such as knife throwing) he begins to doubt his first assessment. He is still falling for her, but more and more nervous as time passes, and there are more close calls with death on his part.

Is this a good alibi for tommorow?
Heres the situation- Apparently this nerdy type kid in my consumer class, tyler, filed a bully report on me. Although i just joke around with my friend jason with him.
Cause’, me and my guy friends rag on each other, guys tease each other. Its what we do. But apparently this kids self esteem is so low he doesnt get when im fooling around, even when i say hey and im just kidding.

Im going to visit the principal before school starts, so it looks better on my part. i really cant get suspended now.
My alibi [im gonna kiss @$$ a bit...we have a mean principal]- " I thought we were all just kidding, i mean, guys rag on each other, and he never said to stop or anything, so i figured he knew i was just fooling around. If i would have known it was hurting him, i would have recognized that fact and stopped. And since i now know, i will definatly be sure to be careful what i say because i do not want to hurt anyone or anything and im sorry to him."

Something like that…
ITS NOT BULLYING. Saying "you like weiners" isnt bullying, but apparently this anti social fag cant take guys fooling around.
Cause sorry, thats what guys do.

The truth is always best. Face the music and be sincere. Learn from your mistakes. Good luck!

soupkitty | Jan 28, 2010

If he reported you for bullying, I’m betting you pissed the **** out of him more than once or twice. If he’s not part of your guy friends, why do you think he appreciates your humor? I’m glad you have come to realize that your actions are hurtful.

Tell your principal the truth. It’s like pleading guilty before you go to trial for a crime you have, indeed, committed.. You get off easier if you plead guilty than if you have to actually to through the trial process.

But this approach will only work once. If you antagonize anyone in the future, you’re not going to be able to get away with your ’sincere’ contrition.

Ghost Town: The Movie

The Movie
Ghost Town: The Movie (2007)

IMDB rating: 4.40

Plot: Dean Teaster’s GHOST TOWN “The Movie” This unique “Eastern” Western is N.C. Native Dean Teaster’s tribute to his father Robert Doyle Teaster and “Ghost Town In The Sky” theme park. The theme park was a large piece of the childhood happiness for Dean’s family and many families since its opening in 1961. This story combines actual family facts of the Teaster family fictionalized into a story that encompasses the best elements of the staged gunfights performed by the Legendary “Ghost Town Gunfighters” throughout the years at the park. Many of the original actors have returned for roles in the film. Former “Ghost Town Gunfighters” Robert Bradley once known as “The Apache Kid,” Herbert Cowboy Coward “GrandPappy,” and Harry Valentine “The Golden Voice of Ghost Town” play pivotal roles in the film as does Alaska Presley who was one of the original park founders. Dean Teaster reprises the role of “Digger” made famous by his father. This movie was created to offset many of the “Hillbilly” stereotypes often depicted with this area. The movie paints a picture of this beautiful mountain region that was settled by the overseas Celtic people. These settlers were full of rich traditions and a true grit that allowed them to survive and thrive during the rugged 1800’s period of US History often shown in western films. This movie may well be the birth of a sub genre of the western known as “The Eastern.” With a slight romantic edge this movie is chalked full of messages about love, hate, family, forgiveness, redemption and sacrifice. This film builds on a regional theme where conflict was often fought over family honor versus land as often depicted in westerns due to the gold rushes and land acquisitions and expansions. Being a lover of the western genre I think that we have told a story that will entertain many generations of people and with the re-opening of the “Ghost Town In The Sky” theme park we look forward to bright future built upon the past.

What animated movie is this?
Hi! I need help finding out which animated movie is this. I’ll try my best to describe it as accurately as possible.

This movie has the around the same style as The Hunchback of Notre Dame movie (animated of course). I saw it a while ago, could be as much as 8-10 years ago. I remember bits and pieces from the movie and hopefully that will help. Description:

The story happens Medieval times (or something along those lines) in a town. It starts off with a look at a past event. A jester (or a robber disguised as jester) is running from a mob. What the jester did, and this is probably revealed later in the movie, is that he stole a pouch of gold from a king or lord. Anyway, the jester and the mob stops on a bridge. The jester takes out an instrument that has a crank (I don’t know if links to deviantart are allowed, but if they are, I believe the instrument looks like what the guy in this drawing is holding: http://zubby.deviantart.com/art/Zork-Org an-Grinder-131221038 ). Suddenly, the mob starts dancing uncontrollably. After that, something terrible happens (like the bridge breaks down or something) and both the mob and the jester die (I think we only see them plunging to their deaths, the king/lord was part of the mob too I think). Several years past and we come to the current timeline. I only remember parts of the movie after that. The main protagonist of the story is, I believe, a young man. Another important character is his father or grandfather (most likely the latter, he looked old) who is a clockmaker (really not sure about that one) or repairs something like that. One important thing about him is that he has this huge instrument or machine (I’m incline to think it’s an organ, but I don’t remember him playing on a keyboard of any sort, plus as you’ll see, it has a huge crank). When he starts playing the instrument/machine, the ghost of the people who died on the bridge appear on the new bridge (at first, they’re all identical as they are all wearing black cloaks). Later in the movie, the grandfather/father finds a huge crank on the instrument. I clearly remember him making a strenuous effort to turn the big crank (with both hands) at some point in the movie. When he plays it with the big crank, the ghosts on the bridge become even more real. You can distinguish each one of them dancing and singing. Also, at some point, the pouch of gold comes out of the instrument and the grandfather uses it to pay a tax collector or a debt of his. I think the guy that takes the money comes several times to him demanding the money in the movie.

Well, that’s pretty much it. There may be some inaccuracies though, I saw this a while ago when I was a kid. I don’t think it’s a disney movie as I checked the list of disney movies on wikipedia (it’s been driving me nuts). Any help with this would be much appreciated
Thank you for your answer Connor C. Unfortunately, I checked it and that’s not it. The film is not 3D but 2D, and this one is too recent.

In 'Six Young Men', what does the writer mean when he says 'to regard this photograph might well dement'?
What does he mean by this? And what does it show about his feelings? It’s about World War 2 in Britain.

The celuloid of a photograph holds them well,-
Six young men, familiar to their friends.
Four decades that have faded and ochre-tinged
This photograph have not wrinkled the faces or the hands.
Though their ****** hats are not now fashionable,
Their shoes shine. One imparts an intimate smile,
One chews a grass, one lowers his eyes, bashful,
One is ridiculous with cocky pride-
Six months after this picture they were all dead.

All are trimmed for a Sunday jaunt. I know
That bilberried bank, that thick tree, that black wall,
Which are there yet and not changed. From where these sit
You hear the water of seven streams fall
To the roarer in the bottom, and through all
The leafy valley a rumouring of air go.
Pictured here, their expressions listen yet,
And still that valley has not changed its sound
Though their faces are four decades under the ground.

This one was shot in an attack and lay
Calling in the wire, then this one, his best friend,
Went out to bring him in and was shot too;
And this one, the very moment he was warned
From potting at tin cans in no-man’s land,
Fell back dead with his rifle sights shot away.
The rest nobody knows what they came to,
But come to the worst they must have done, and held it
Closer than their hope; all were killed.

Here see a man’s photograph,
The locket of a smile, turned overnight
Into the hospital of his mangled last
Agony and hours; see bundled in it
His mightier-than-a-man dead bulk and weight:
And on this one place that keeps him alive
(In his Sunday best) See fall war’s worst
Thinkable flash and rending, onto his smile
Forty years rotting into soil.

That man’s not more alive whom you confront
And shake by the hand, see hale, hear speak loud,
Than any of these six celluloid smiles are,
Nor prehistoric or fabulous beast more dead;
No thought more vivid than their smoking-blood:
To regard this photograph might well dement,
Smile from the single exposure and shoulder out
One’s own body from its instant and heat.

And what does it show about his feelings?

Thank you.

You’ve left a line out. The actual verse is:

To regard this photograph might well dement,
Such contradictory permanent horrors here
Smile from the single exposure and shoulder out
One’s own body from its instant and heat.

Dement means to cause to lose one’s mind, or to make crazy. So I think he is saying that the juxtaposition of the men in the photograph, so alive, with their eventual fates is enough to make you lose your mind - perhaps because it is so tragic.

As far as his feelings, it seems to me that he is talking about the futility of war, not just how sad it is, but how awful it is for men at their most vital to be taken from their lives. It is sad and a bit angry, to me. But also a bit fatalistic, as viewing the photo forces confrontation with the mortality of us all.

senlin | Jan 30, 2010

To dement someone means to make them insane. So the line means, "Looking at this photo might drive you mad.

Why was jesus dying for all sins the basis of christianity when jesus knew he was going to heaven?
My question is-

When Jesus died, he knew that he was the son of God and he knew that he was going home. He died because he was persecuted, not because he was sacrificing himself for any living individual at the time.

There are many who sacrifice themselves for others. Soldiers protecting citizens, police officers, bodyguards, and others that are personally defending others. I even had a dog that died protecting me from a rattlesnake.

These people are not the son of God. They do not know for certain if they are going to heaven. Faith in their beliefs is all they have. Jesus knew. These people didn’t.

They are risking their eternal fate by saving someone else. Jesus sacrificed his body, not his soul.

Why is his bodily sacrifice so important to christians?

There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one!!! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!!

There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!

He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?

Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!!

At best he was an amalgam of those others!!

Sage | Jan 17, 2010

Jesus did not exactly fit the mould of a messiah. Early Christianity had to make some meaning of his death.

Concern, honor, dignity, wanting a better life for society, Yeshua however died a horrible death that does not compare to any others on the cross. He did it because he loved us so much.

He’s not the only one who has had to sacrifice his body.
VirginVirgo | Jan 17, 2010

Here:

In the OT, God required a Blood sacrifice for sin.

Jesus was that final sacrifice, because, like the sacrificial animals, He too was without blemish, (sinless), & the only one worthy OF being the final sacrifice for man. his blood was shed on the cross, like that blood of the sacrificial animals.

But what makes Jesus unique is, is that:

1. He CHOSE to be the final sacrifice for man.

2. He defeated the penalty for sin, (death), by rising FROM the dead, shown that through Him, we to could know that we to could have eternal life, if we choose to follow Him.

Fgthjfx | Jan 17, 2010

It’s not the fact that He knew He was going to heaven.
While on earth Jesus was every bit human and subject to human pain, sadness and humiliation.
He did not want to die on the cross..because He was scared. But He did it for us.
His pain , humiliation and agonizing death on the cross was like this..
I heard a story about the Holocaust..I don’t know if it’s true or not..but the idea is clear..
Some concentration camp prisoners tried to escape, but were caught.
The Nazi’s brought all the prisoners out front and said that he was going to kill one of the prisoners who tried to escape. When he went he called the poor guy forward…an older prisoner spoke up. He asked the Nazi to kill him instead. He said the other man was young and had a family..and he was an old man so he begged the Nazi to kill him so the younger prisoner could live..the Nazi killed the older man instead of the younger man..
To me..the older prisoner is like Jesus in this story..it doesn’t matter what would happen after he died..he just wanted to make sure that the younger prisoner lived..
Elanshaw Redux | Jan 17, 2010

When Jesus was on the Earth, he was a human with the same life as such as you or me. There was a difference; he was perfect, meaning that in this state he was in was equivalent to the first man Adam. With the life that Jesus had on the Earth, he had the same feelings as more or less everybody on the Earth; that is they do not want to die. Jesus allowed himself to be sacrificed as such just as God required him to and this was to save all faithful mankind who would be obedient to God. What happened in this process was that Jesus as the first perfect man who could follow God to the end without sinning against God, unlike Adam who failed, won back the right for mankind to return to a perfect condition at a further time in the future. In this perfect condition to come, man would live forever as human beings.

There is an instance that shows that Jesus could have at any time called angels for his protection at any time before the whole set of circumstances unfolded. See scripture sited below:

Mat 26: 51 But, look! one of those with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword and struck the slave of the high priest and took off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said to him:

How good do you think this piece is? (out of 5)?
Hi. I’m 13, I love writing, but how good is this intro? I think it’s ok, but I don’t know about you guys… do you want to read more of this? Pls be honest. Could you rate it out of 5, and give comments or edits? Thxs in advance. Here it is:

"Mom!" My voice is thin and reedy. High-pitched. Unnatural.
"I’m going for a walk." It’s surprising how easily I can say it.
" ‘k hun" her voice comes back, absent and distracted. Oblivious as usual. Oh well. For this once, it would protect her. For a while.
"See ya mom" I shouted, and then after a pause, "Love ya"
I walked out quickly. I sauntered down the street casually, feeling surprisingly calm and detached. Several cars drove by, but I ignored them. They weren’t big enough. Or fast enough, for that matter. Suddenly, I spotted the perfect truck, and it’s owner, a heavily muscled guy, was whistling and looked distracted. I took a deep breath, measured the distance carefully, closed my eyes, and started walking. Off the pavement, onto the road. I heard one yell, felt one hand on my arm, but I shrugged both off. I continued walking.
*Screech* Thud thud.
I felt the impact, and smiled. Mission completed.

How is it??? Btw, could you suggest a name for the character and whether it is to be a girl or boy? Thxs

P.S This is not a sad emo story, it’s not some soppy love story. It’s a story about… well, I’ll leave that to your imagination. Happy reading!

Ooh it’s pretty good! I’m an amature author too, so I know how you feel. maybe you could make it the story of an albino girl who has a broken family and is made fun of at school? Then (this is a random example) she could learn that she has the power to control people and make them do her bidding. So, she sets herself on a mission to have revenge on the awful people who had once excluded her, and ends up on the run from the law.

IMDB rating: 8.00

Plot: This story is a narration from an Australian man who falls in love with two kinds of Candy: a woman of the same name and heroin. Data and probability help please!?
This is a homework question i have for my data class. 30% of candies produced by a company are red candies. Packages of 10 are randomly selected. What is the probability that less than 3 candies in a box are red?
Considering the candies have no specific order is it not correct to do..
(0.3)^2 * (0.7) ^8 + (0.3)^1 * (0.7) ^9 + (0.7) ^10

However, I’m wondering if combinations must be used…

10C2 (0.3)^2 * (0.7) ^8 + 10C1(0.3)^1 * (0.7) ^9 + * (0.7) ^10

Let X be the number of red candies in the box. X has the binomial distribution with n = 10 trials and success probability p = 0.3

In general, if X has the binomial distribution with n trials and a success probability of p then
P[X = x] = n!/(x!(n-x)!) * p^x * (1-p)^(n-x)
for values of x = 0, 1, 2, …, n
P[X = x] = 0 for any other value of x.

The probability mass function is derived by looking at the number of combination of x objects chosen from n objects and then a total of x success and n - x failures.
Or, in other words, the binomial is the sum of n independent and identically distributed Bernoulli trials.

X ~ Binomial( n = 10 , p = 0.3 )

the mean of the binomial distribution is n * p = 3
the variance of the binomial distribution is n * p * (1 - p) = 2.1
the standard deviation is the square root of the variance = v ( n * p * (1 - p)) = 1.449138

The Probability Mass Function, PMF,
f(X) = P(X = x) is:

P( X = 0 ) = 0.02824752
P( X = 1 ) = 0.1210608
P( X = 2 ) = 0.2334744
P( X = 3 ) = 0.2668279
P( X = 4 ) = 0.2001209
P( X = 5 ) = 0.1029193
P( X = 6 ) = 0.03675691
P( X = 7 ) = 0.009001692
P( X = 8 ) = 0.001446701
P( X = 9 ) = 0.000137781
P( X = 10 ) = 5.9049e-06

P(X < 3) = P(X = 0) + P(X = 1) + P(X = 2) = 0.3827828
